Ladies & Gents,
In 2004 the posters on www.statusquo.co.uk were made aware of the plight of Shona Gill, a young lady battling cancer (RHABDOMYSOARCOMA – more info for which can be found online at www.stjude.org ), who’s father joined the community of Quo fans online. Over the course of the year, while trying to raise money for an operation in the USA, doctors gave the news that there was no more they could do, with or without expensive surgery, and so a campaign was started to give Shona some great times while she could still enjoy them, and make a little something as a legacy for her. Two things were planned. 1 was a successful party-night with Quo-fans from all over the country attending (which doubled as a 10th-birthday-party, due to her missing the official one a week earlier due to hospital appointments), plenty of food and drink, silly games, and live Quo-music. The other was a CD, designed to raise money towards helping people in the same boat in the future.

Acoustic Quo’tes has been put together during 2004 as a memento to Shona, and a tribute to the greatest Boogie Rock Band on the planet. The money raised will be split between the ‘Boxford’ and ‘Bergholt’ children’s ward in Ipswich hospital, and will also go towards a fund which helps the expenses of the Hospital’s Homecare Nurses.
It has been suggested many times that Status Quo try an “unplugged set” in the manner of the famous MTV series, and perhaps in a large break from tradition, record an album in that manner. So far, they seem to have had a lot of reluctance to do such a thing, and so in my wisdom(?), I decided to try and act upon it myself, even if only to see what can be done with Quo songs played in such a manner. Perhaps if the band themselves like it, it may inspire them enough to consider the idea more seriously (or of course, the flip-side is where it is SO bad they refuse to ever go near idea again!).
So, “Acoustic Quo’tes” is an unplugged tribute to the greatest rock band in the land, and been very fortunate to get friends and acquaintances to contribute songs to the idea, thus giving a 15-track CD which will be released as “The Petrol Band & Friends”, with guests including: Paul & Mikey (From State Of Quo), Simon Bate (From Strictly Quo), Darren “Woody” Woodhall (From Spare Parts), Patrick Cusse, Daniel Tapscott & Mark “Bad Ex” Middlehurst. There is also a great contribution from Danish tribute band Quo-Denmark. It contains an array of tracks covering Quo’s career from the 1960’s all the way through to the present day, with some very interesting renditions and interpretations of some of their biggest hits, along with a few little gems that have been worked out of rare and often-forgotten tracks. It covers an array of instruments, fast-&-slow tracks, relaxed and pounding rhythms. Hopefully we have got the mix just right.
Thank you for taking the time to read this information. Shona has proved an inspiration to us all in her battle against the Big C. The spirit of this 10-year-old girl is very humbling, and while this CD may not be able to change her plight, I hope it may go some way as a memento, and not one penny will go to any of the performers or contributors to the CD, who have all donated their time, effort (and personal costs of recording/mixing/sending their tracks) for free.
The cost of the CD is 10 UK pounds or 15 Euros, including P&P.
If you would like a copy please send a cheque made payable to D. Goldblatt to 64 Boreham Holt, Elstree, Herts, WD6 3QQ. Please include a piece of paper inside with your name, address, contact telephone number, and e-mail (if you have one) details, and mark clearly that it is for the “Acoustic Quo’tes” CD album. You can also pay in cash - pounds or Euros. Please do not send cheques in any currency other than Sterling, as the UK banks charge a fortune to bank them.
